Fire/Metal

My ability to hurt is boundless
I've discovered
Through a face
That aches
And cracks
In heretofore
Unknown places
From so many tears

A universe of sorrow
Birthed on an island
Where I can both
Long so desperately
And hate so thoroughly
For the same being
In the course
Of one afternoon

Seemingly insignificant
It's funny how
These new bruises
Land heavy footed
On those same
Tender places
Where blood vessels broke
So long before

The body remembers
They whisper
At my meridian limbs
In the forest
The pericardium aches
While I curl up inside you
Starved to be fed
With the source of deprivation

And once those
Carefully woven threads
The walls of surety
That keep the monsters out
And the silence in
Come unwoven
We are back to that
From which we have run
All along

So I stand here
On the edge
Of light and dark
Of rock over ocean
Of the blade of a knife
Heart in my hands
And I search
Back arched
And arms outstreched
Deep into those recesses
Through sailor's curses
Memorized lines
And seaweed
For that kernel
The glowing orb
Of unambiguity
That is my own will
To hang on to
To grow anew
